Washburn D10s Review

I am a lead guitarist and have been playing guitar for the past 7 years. Today, I own 5 different guitars and Washburn D10S was my second guitar in my climb to advanced acoustic guitars and then to the electric segment. I own a Black colored D10S (model number: D10S B).

I graduated to a Washburn D10S from my first generic guitar (which had a terrible sound). So this was kind of heaven for me at the time. I especially loved its thin neck, which felt fretboard movement like a breeze. My left hand skills suddenly got a boost and I still because of the thin neck and I still remember my happiness at this new found fretboard flexibility. This guitar has an amazingly thin neck (I’m guessing the thinnest neck for any acoustic guitar) and that makes it easy for beginners to perfect their left-hand skills.

The guitar came with amazing strings. The top and mid range of the guitar was a noticeable improvement on my previous guitar. My playing ability could not change overnight but the sound quality did. This guitar has a wonderful, warm and smooth tone that impresses me even after several years of playing. I later read somewhere that this is due to the Schaller tuning system used in the Washburn D10s.

I vividly remember my guitar teacher asking me to take care of my D10S because it was a hard top guitar that supposedly needed more protection and care compared to the cheaper laminate top guitars. However after the first few days of care, I don’t remember ever putting this guitar back in the bag after playing. But this guitar has survived all my whims over the last 6 years and it still plays well (except for a few minor scratches). The D10S came with a limited lifetime warranty but I never had to use it.

Now for the negatives – The Washburn D10s are my most frequently played guitar and I would never have thought about it if I hadn’t bought higher priced guitars later in life. I don’t like the look of the guitar. To me, the body of the guitar seems disproportionate compared to its fretboard. But it’s a completely different matter that I used to be an ardent fan of the same looks 🙂
