Toddler Beds – What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Toddler Or Infant Beds?
Are you ready for your child to move from their crib to a bed? Whether this is because you have a new baby on the way or the baby has outgrown the crib, it’s time to consider your two options – a full-size bed or a toddler bed. The camps are divided on this one. Some people believe that toddler beds are the way to go and others think why waste money on a toddler bed that will need to be replaced soon. Still figuring out which side you’re on? Stop listening to everyone else and consider your own situation. Figure out how much space you have, what your budget is and most importantly think about what your child would need best. Before you decide, there you should consider the advantages and disadvantages of children’s beds.
Advantages of a Toddler Bed
– A crib could use the same crib mattress your child is used to. So this makes it easier to settle back into the familiar environment. The big plus is that you don’t have to go and buy new beds because the crib mattress is usually the same size, so this is a cost-effective option.
– The bed is lower so it is easy to get in and out. If you are worried that your child might fall out, you can get a toddler bed with rails that will prevent this. These railings can also give a sense of security to the child similar to that of a crib.
– These beds are great if you have limited space and need to save the crib for another baby. This is also ideal if you want to save more space in the playground.
– There are many themed beds available in this style. So, this can make the new bed fun for the child.
Disadvantages of Toddler Bed
– A huge disadvantage is that these beds are intended to be and designed for children between 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 years. So your child will probably outgrow the crib. Once the child gets used to the toddler bed, it’s time to switch again to a larger twin size bed.
– Just because these toddler beds are lower, they are easier to get in and out of. While this can be good, this can also be bad. Your child might keep coming out of it because it’s easier than staying in bed.
– When you buy a children’s bed and mattress, pay attention to the size. Some companies build both of these in odd sizes so you have to keep coming back to them for some sheets and/or accessories. They usually pay a premium due to the lack of competition.
– Also remember that a standard crib sheet is 52 inches x 27 inches. If your child is in the higher percentages, the time frame for using the bed will be even shorter.
