Concept

Acne is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by skin lesions around hair follicles. It is a common disease that mainly affects teenagers, but it can also affect adults, especially between the ages of 20 and 30. In these people, acne can appear as different types of acne, such as comedones (blackheads), papules (red, hard bumps), pustules (grains of pus), and more rarely, cysts and abscesses. Lesions are found on the face and less often on the back, chest, shoulders and neck. Acne requires treatment and there is no need to wait for nature to solve the problem because it is very difficult to predict how long it will take for it to disappear completely. The treatment can prevent scarring or birthmarks, thereby improving skin and physical appearance.

Causes

Acne is caused by a series of hormonal changes that occur during puberty. During puberty, the sebaceous glands (located deep in the skin) produce an oily material called sebum caused by testosterone (the male hormone). Sebum reaches the surface through small tubes (ducts) and their opening is a pore.

Obstruction of the sebaceous ducts causes it to retain sebum and form pimples, which can be:

General measures

– Wash your skin daily to control excess oil and bacteria that aggravate acne-prone skin.

– Facial cleansing.

Acne improves with sun exposure, so clinical treatment with UV lamps is also recommended. Patients are advised to undergo treatment 2-3 times a week. Treatment may be given in conjunction with lasers in cases of extensive inflammation to prevent scarring.

Acne scars

Some acne patients have unsightly scars (dimples and red spots), especially on the face and back. Scars can be improved with chemical peels performed by qualified personnel.

The peel is made by applying a lotion with concentrated fruit acids (glycolic, lactic, citric or salicylic) to the face using gauze to stimulate the skin’s natural repair mechanisms.
