My just achieved ‘Star Performer Award’ was a guarantee of a promising future in the organization. My husband is also an IT professional. And like me, he also has very erratic office timing. Appointing a nanny was an option, but somehow it didn’t appeal to us. We witnessed child carelessness with babysitters in the neighborhood. Still, a moment’s thought would make me want to get a nanny to keep a good job. So here I was asking every second, day and night, what should I compromise with – WORK OR CHILD? And after a constant era of asking questions and answers, I RESIGNED from my job!! This article can help working parents who are expecting a baby, want to give it their time and attention too, but struggle with “single salary” versus “double salary”.

WILL I KEEP SOME IDENTITY WHEN I LEAVE MY ALWAYS GLORIOUS DECENT JOB? Yes… You are the same. Your identity is the same. Your qualifications and attributes are the same. The roles are just changing. Instead of working in an office, you will now have a little life to take care of.

IS MY EDUCATION OF ANY USE IF I SIT AT HOME AND DO NOTHING? Yes… Education has given you the much needed stability and confidence to make major decisions in life. Education does not teach how to earn money, but rather it is worth earning and being self-sufficient. Education encourages you to prioritize at different stages. And your top priority right now is to own “parenthood” responsibly. And trust me, even though the thought might drive you crazy, there won’t be a second of “DO NOTHING”. The moment a child is born, a mother is born. You will have to redouble your energy to complete routine chores while taking care of the baby. Check diapers and change diapers, keep room tidy, adjust room temperature, wake and sleep to accommodate occasional feedings along with daily cooking, cleaning and laundry. Routine medical check-ups are also on the list. If you are a toddler, you will find yourself around. Planning for next season, new styles, new toys, next stages of baby food, so many things to think about!! Where is the TIME?

WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAD MY FAMILY ON ONE SALARY AND STILL PROVIDE MY CHILD WITH A DECENT LIFE? Yes… This is the only distinguishing line between ‘Job’ and ‘No Job’ we are talking about. Thoroughly analyze your financial situation. Maybe it will cut down on your trips to the restaurant! Or your investments can secure you enough if there is an emergency at all!! Think about it again and again and again until you are clear and comfortable with your own financial background. Financial constraint is the only real reason you won’t want to think twice but continue working as you always have. THINK ABOUT IT – When a child is young, there are not many other expenses. The expenses will be higher when his education begins and with it many requests will accumulate, new shoes, fancy dress, mobile toys and much more. You will need money now, but from now on you will be able to rejoin your good old job.

Remember, at the end of the day, you live and earn for your child. Do NOT ignore him at any cost, not even a little bit.
