Curly Perms for African Americans, The Low Maintenance Wave Nouveau Perm

We’ve come a long way with curly perms for African Americans. Just imagine getting out of bed, getting ready for work, and all you have to do is spray your hair with a mist, apply moisturizing lotion to your hair, run a comb through your hair, you look fabulous and you’re ready to go! With the many hats that women these days have to wear as a mother, mentor and unfortunately father to our children, women today are looking for hair that looks great without the fuss. Low maintenance is key. Let’s face it, with the added responsibilities we face as women, we just don’t have time to spend long hours in salons or spend a lot of time in front of the mirror doing our hair.

Maintenance is easy with the Wave Nouveau dry curling system. The hair looks great and is definitely a major improvement from the days when everyone wore the greasy unattractive Jheri Curl. Wave Nouveau is the first of its kind to take “dry curls” to new heights. It looks more natural than other curly systems and looks more like our natural hair. Another big advantage is that it is not fake; it’s not a weave and most importantly it’s YOUR own hair. With proper care, your hair will thrive and grow to great lengths.

Hopefully you won’t have a problem finding a beautician who still does Wave Nouveau. We are seeing an upward trend in women returning to this dry curl system because it is so easy to care for and maintain.

I have had Wave Nouveau twice in my life. When I first got this perm my hair grew to shoulder length in no time but when I got pregnant and my hormones were out of whack my hair started to thin and fall out so I let it grow out and went back to the relaxer. After years of using the harsh chemicals found in relaxers, my hair started to show serious signs of breakage, especially around the hairline, and I was losing hair at a faster rate with virtually no hair growth. Out of fear of going bald, I decided since I was done having kids, I would go back to the one thing I knew would benefit my hair, and that was Wave Nouveau curly perm.

I let my relaxer grow out for 5-1/2 to 6 months and then I had enough hair to start over with Wave Nouveau. I’ve enjoyed many months of low maintenance hair care, but I’ve noticed that my hair isn’t growing as fast as it used to. I had a new hairdresser who told me not to wash my hair often and only every 2 to 2-1/2 weeks. I followed her instructions for a year and a half and noticed that my hair was dull, dirty, my scalp itchy and my hair didn’t seem to grow at all even after using all the right products. When I asked her why I had to wait 2 weeks to wash my hair, she said that if I wash it too often (once a week), the water will strip my hair of the moisture it needs. That’s when I remembered that the only thing that helped my hair grow with Wave Nouveau was the fact that I used to wash my hair weekly (once a week) instead of the 2-2-1/2 weeks from my beautician. wanted me to do. I decided to take control of my hair, forget her instructions and went back to washing my hair on a weekly basis and my hair started growing like crazy. Instead of the half inch of hair we’re used to seeing normally, my new growth looked more like a full inch per month at the time of the trim.

When I came in for a treatment, my hairdresser immediately noticed the change in the length of my hair and my hair looked healthy and strong. She started asking me what I was doing differently with my hair that I suddenly caused such a change in hair growth. She thought I was taking special hair vitamins. As I said before, water is our friend, not our enemy. Just washing your hair stimulates the scalp and increases blood circulation in the scalp, which creates the conditions for tremendous hair growth.

I use the Wave Nouveau product line daily. My daily product regimen consists of the following: In the morning before I get in the shower, I spray my hair with Wave Nouveau Hydrating Mist, then I apply Wave Nouveau Daily Moisture Hydrating Lotion to my hair, put on a shower cap, and when I shower I condition my hair and I add moisture to them when I shower. Always mist your hair first and then apply lotion. (If you don’t mist first, the lotion won’t absorb into the hair effectively). When I get out of the shower, I repeat the process of applying the same products again and go about my day. Before going to bed, I apply the same preparations again an hour before going to bed, so that the hair has a chance to dry. I put a satin piece of fabric on my pillow and sleep on it to prevent hair breakage. Whenever I wash my hair, I apply a generous amount of Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Finishing Lotion to my hair as it is a heavier lotion able to handle the dryness that occurs right after washing. I might have to apply it at least 2-3 more times that day to reduce frizz and before you know it, my soft luxurious curls are back without any hint of frizz.

The day of curly perms for African Americans is a sign of the future as more and more women are looking for styles that require little attention.
