Did We Give Our Child Cancer?

PART 1: Worst Day of My Life:

I knew it might be serious when our doctor called to say he had made an appointment for our four-year-old daughter, Laura, at the pediatric ward of a large hospital 50 miles away.

We packed up the car and set off. My wife and I didn’t talk much. It was a gloomy day, cloudy with a little light rain. As we drove down the highway I remember hoping for some sign….maybe the clouds would suddenly part and the sun would break through and shine on us…maybe a car would pass and the people inside would look at us and be friendly he smiled… anything to reassure me that someone from above told me everything was going to be okay. But there were no signs.

We were able to find a hemo/oncology unit with little trouble. My first reaction when we entered the room was horror to see all those precious little children in such poor health. I thought “why are we here? My daughter can’t be that sick.” Girls and boys, both walking very slowly, some limping, hairless, some scarred, others carrying infusions. Was this a preview of what my daughter would soon look like?

After a long wait, it was Laura’s turn to undergo a spinal tap. My wife held her on her lap while the medication was being administered…. It only took 3 or 4 seconds for my daughter’s eyes to roll back in her head and her body to go limp. It was a vision I would never be able to get out of my mind. My eyes welled up with tears as the life seemed to be completely drained from her. She was placed on the table and we were politely asked to leave. How I felt a sickening feeling in my stomach as I walked away from her now motionless body.

The nurse said, “He’ll be fine, he’s just sleeping… the procedure won’t take long and he’ll be back in your arms soon.”

From that moment on, time seemed to stand still. I heard the clock ticking. 10 minutes passed, then 20 and pretty soon 30 minutes passed and still nothing. That’s when I knew it was as serious as Laura’s pediatrician thought. The wait was unbearable.

Finally the doctors appeared and their faces said it all. There were no smiles. The head doctor came and invited us into another room and then it came… “I’m sorry, but your daughter has leukemia.” There was complete silence.

PART 2: The Reason Why?

As time went on, I kept thinking, “Why did this happen? We had no history of cancer on any side of our family, let alone leukemia.” Were we punished for some reason?

We had our home and babysitters tested for radon gas… both came back negative.

We don’t live near a lot of power lines, so electromagnetic wires weren’t the culprit.

Could it have happened during childbirth? (Laura gave birth by caesarean section)

So many questions were asked without getting any answers, which only led to more questions.

What kept coming back to my mind was “How”? How did it happen… and why her? I felt so helpless but knew I had to do something to help my little girl (as well as my other daughter, my wife and myself). Something did it, I just didn’t know what.

So I began to educate myself, not only about leukemia, but about health in general, and what I found was disturbing to say the least. We live in a toxic mess – exposing our bodies to a virtual onslaught of dangerous chemicals every day.

Chemicals in detergents, shampoos, soaps, body lotions, toothpaste, mouthwash, hairspray, cosmetics, air fresheners, household cleaners, dishwashing detergents… the list goes on go on and on. Could this be the cause of my daughter’s illness? Could it be due to the lifestyle my wife and I lived before conception? Could this have been caused during pregnancy? Could this have happened after Laura was born?

Was her illness caused by these things we used daily?

To this day, we still don’t have all the answers, but we have changed our lifestyle. I didn’t realize how much I take health and life for granted until I thought my daughter’s health was at risk. Every day is a gift now.

I believe everything in life happens for a reason. Maybe God chose me on purpose… to go through it, learn from it, and then pass on my new found knowledge. I guess he had a plan to teach others so that they may never have to endure the pain and agony of watching their child (or some other loved one) go through what our child went through. Learn from my experience so you can avoid one.

Knowledge is one thing, but action is quite another. The second part of that plan had to be to partner with a company that offers products of unmatched purity and effectiveness – without any harmful ingredients. It is this company and its products that I now use and recommend to everyone who comes into contact with me. I feel it is my duty in life and something I should have done.

Cancer is a dreaded disease that has robbed us all of so many wonderful people. I’ve seen firsthand what it’s like to watch someone struggle through it. It’s not fun and it’s not pretty. In fact, some scientists predict that by 2030, 26 million people worldwide will be diagnosed with cancer each year and 17 million will die from it.

So my mission is to educate people about the dangers in the products they use every day and offer them healthy alternatives. I’m actually quite angry at what is being sold to unsuspecting customers… products that are marketed as “safe”, “natural”, “gentle”, as “organic”… are really anything but. Products with catchy names and slogans in brightly colored, fancy-shaped packaging – all in the hope of making a healthy profit, but it won’t be healthy for the end user. If we don’t change our lifestyles and start supporting companies like the one I linked to, these researchers may have made an accurate prediction for 2030. My goal is to make those numbers much, much less… one person or one generation suddenly.

In closing, let me leave you with a thought – perhaps the last part of God’s plan was for you to read this story and then see if you would act on it.

As I said before, I believe that everything in life happens for a reason.
