A True Story of How I Stopped My Back Pain In Just 3 Minutes – I Just Have To Share
I fell down my wooden stairs last week. As you can imagine it hurt, really bad.
I hold my middle son Noble in one hand and my baby’s clothes in the other. I neglect the railing and, silly me, wear socks. This triple threat causes me to slip at the top, land on my sacrum, and accelerate downward.
At the bottom I feel like I’ve been hit by a train. My son has a nasty bruise on his shin and although I have no outward signs my nervous system is going crazy and I am rolling around nursing wounds.
I knew I was hurt, but like most virulent men I decided to assert myself… asserting myself is one of the worst ideas ever.
I had severe pain in my left lower back. It was like a pinch. It was driving me crazy. But I pushed through and went on a snowshoe trip in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with a 40 pound pack on my back.
During the 4 day trip I stretched, did yoga and tried to massage the area. Nothing worked.
I have now been married to a chiropractor for 5 years. You’d think I’d see her right after it happened, but I didn’t. These days I get a touch up about once every 1-2 months. I have seen chiropractic care do amazing things for people suffering from neck pain, back pain, headaches, migraines, sports injuries, sciatica and more. But like most people, I often wait until I have back pain before going to a chiropractic office.
Despite stretching, massages and yoga, the pain persisted, so I finally went to my chiropractor. I’ve seen patients with severe back pain, especially those who have been neglectful, take 45 minutes for the first treatment—hot packs, soothing muscle spasms, gently realigning the spine.
It took 3 minutes for him to adjust to me and I felt like a new man. I love yoga. I love massages. I’m always stretching, but editing is a “horse of a different color” (quote from The Wizard of Oz). When I need an adjustment, nothing else will do. When I woke up the next morning I felt like a super hero…maybe Wolverine or Batman or the Flash.
If you struggle with back or neck pain, give up and consider a chiropractor. There are many professions that call themselves back doctors, but always remember that each profession will give you its solution to your problem based on its philosophy. Research their philosophy and see if it aligns with your common sense.
