Prevention and Natural Removal of Gallbladder or Kidney Stones
I’ve never been one to take medication unless absolutely necessary. Of course there are times when it’s unavoidable, but whenever possible, I go for natural every time. I go for regular check-ups, I try to be aware of what I’m eating, I make sure I exercise regularly; that I am getting enough vitamins and nutrients, and if not, to use supplements where my diet may be lacking.
This is a small maintenance procedure that I go through from time to time, to take preventive measures. It is to prevent/remove any kind of stones in the body: kidney or gall bladder. Have I ever had any of these stones and where were they removed? Who knows?.. I never looked!
I have been doing this for many years and I don’t even remember how I knew this and yes, it may be an old wives tale but if you search the net, a large number of people have suffered from kidney disease. or gall bladder stones tried it and were very happy with their results. So I think a lot of people can’t be wrong! It’s also natural, so here goes…
At least half an hour before my dinner, I mix two tablespoons of olive oil with two tablespoons of lemon juice and drink it on an empty stomach. Sounds delicious, I know, but just drink it fast. Don’t eat anything for at least half an hour afterwards, if you can’t feel nauseous. Also, I’ve read that lying on your right side helps this too, so you can spend that half hour lying on the couch watching TV or reading a book.
The acidity of the lemon juice helps to break up the stones you have and the olive oil helps them to have a smooth exit. I try to do this every few months, every night, for about a week. However, if you know you have any kind of stones, you may want to do this for a longer period of time until you think/know the stones are gone.
People who have had stones report seeing them pass within 24 hours and sometimes as little as 2 hours. Some pick them up to examine. Gallstones are apparently green and waxy, although I suspect the waxy feeling may be due to the softening caused by the lemon juice. Kidney stones tend to be brown or yellow and both have various formations.
Some people take more drastic measures and drink large amounts of olive oil and lemon juice throughout the day, then wait for the stones to pass at night. This is known as a ‘gallbladder cleanse’ or ‘kidney cleanse’. I would not recommend this and I think less is more. Although many people have reported very successful results from doing this, the gallbladder duct is very thin (as is the duct between the kidneys and the bladder) and if you have stones larger than 1.5mm, they may try to pass and get stuck in the duct. In the case of gallstones, this can lead to other problems, such as jaundice or pancreatitis (dangerous inflammation of the pancreas) and perhaps even a visit to the emergency room. Doing it gradually with smaller amounts over an extended period is, I think, the safest method. Any stones should disintegrate and pass anyway, and if you’re experiencing gallbladder or kidney pain or discomfort, you should begin to experience relief after the first nap.
If you have gallstones, in my humble opinion, surgery to remove the gallbladder should always be a last resort. People think that once their gallbladder is removed, the pain will go away and the problem will be solved, but apparently this is not the case and it is estimated that 40% of people will still have symptoms after having their gallbladder removed. So, if you are not in an acute medical situation, you may want to try this natural method before deciding on surgery.
How can you prevent stones from forming in the first place? Research shows that simple changes to your diet can result in rapid health improvements. To prevent gallstones:
- Try to maintain a healthy, nutritional diet and maintain a healthy weight.
- Watch your cholesterol levels. Stones form when your body tries to get rid of excess cholesterol. People who take cholesterol medications also tend to develop gallstones, so it’s best to take preventative measures to keep cholesterol at healthy levels.
- If you have diabetes, try to keep it under control because diabetics often have high levels of triglycerides, which can lead to the development of gallstones.
- Consider carefully before taking any medication containing estrogen, i.e. birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy, as this increases the risk of gallstone formation.
To prevent kidney stones:
- Drink plenty of fluids: You should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
- Eat less meat as animal protein intake causes stones to form.
- Studies have shown that cola drinks and grapefruit juice increase the risk of developing kidney stones, so try to avoid them.
- Don’t eat too much sodium or calcium.
- Try to make sure you have plenty of magnesium and potassium in your diet as these minerals help prevent stone formation.
