Swimming Lessons – How to Swim The Butterfly
One of the most difficult and certainly the most tiring strokes on the water is the butterfly stroke. By bringing your legs together and stroking both arms simultaneously and symmetrically, you can glide through the water with this stroke. Although it is quite complex, swimming lessons can teach you everything you need to know.
If you’ve ever wanted to swim like a dolphin and glide smoothly, now’s your chance. With a few swimming lessons and the right guidance, you too can enjoy this unique and quite difficult arm.
You’re going to start the butterfly stroke by keeping your legs together and extending your arms above your head. From there, you’ll kick your legs up and down in a quick whipping motion. You want to do this from your hips while bending your knees like a dolphin.
The third step is to pull both arms simultaneously and symmetrically through the water. Pass your arms through the water under your body while performing a big kick at the same time. This is meant to give you the boost you need to move your body through and over the water.
From there you are going to lift your head and breathe fast. The goal is to get some air so you can quickly get back into the water to move forward. As you lift your head, you will quickly pull both arms out of the water and swing them forward. As soon as you catch your breath and both arms have rotated forward, you will re-enter the water in a diving motion with your head and arms coming in together.
When you re-enter the water, you want to slide momentarily to move further through the water. When entering the water and gliding, you can perform a small follow-up kick to help you move forward enough.
The last step your swim school will teach you is to do another pulling motion with your arms while kicking your legs to propel yourself up and out of the water. After doing this, you will continue to repeat all the steps listed above.
There is no doubt that the butterfly stroke is one of the most tiring strokes of all. You have to use every muscle in your body with constant effort and strength in your arms and legs. By following the instructions from your swimming lessons, you too will be able to perfect the dolphin arm.
