Fast answer
The answer before the background
Frostborn Wrath does not use selectable classes. Instead, choose a build route by concentrating skill points. For a first journey, invest in Mana Stream and Fusion for economy, Resonance for universal damage, then True Colors after unlocking it at J1. Add Critical Hit for yellow pure gems, Mana Leech for orange farming gems, or Traps for a special-effect setup. Keep enough unspent points to afford your opening towers, and respec between Journey, Trial, Endurance, and Iron battles when their rules change.
CLASS SYSTEM
There are no fixed classes
The game presents one wizard rather than a choice between named classes. Your effective class is the group of skills you level and the gems, buildings, and spells you use in battle. That makes respecializing more useful than following one permanent template.
Use the following labels as build routes rather than official classes. They describe practical roles and help you decide where the next points should go.
- Economy wizard. Mana Stream, Fusion, Mana Leech, and Seeker Sense support larger gems, faster combining, and better long-term progression.
- Pure-gem damage wizard. True Colors, Resonance, and Critical Hit make pure yellow or orange gems scale efficiently. This is the most reliable general damage route after True Colors is unlocked.
- Trap or special-effect wizard. Traps, Slowing, Poison, Bleeding, and Armor Tearing turn short-range trap lines into a control and damage engine. Traps are especially strong when enemies remain in range for a long time.
- Structure wizard. Amplifiers, Pylons, and Lanterns reward careful building placement. This route is powerful on suitable maps but less universal than pure-gem damage.
- Spell and enrage wizard. Fury, Bolt, Beam, Barrage, Whiteout, Ice Shards, and Freeze improve specific battle plans. These skills are usually better as targeted investments than as the foundation of a new save.
| Route | Core skills | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| General progression | Mana Stream, Fusion, Resonance | Journey fields and unfamiliar maps. |
| Pure yellow damage | True Colors, Critical Hit, Resonance | Long battles and high-health targets. |
| Mana farming | Mana Stream, Mana Leech, Traps | Endurance runs where enemies can be kept in a kill zone. |
| Trap control | Traps, Slowing, Poison or Bleeding | Dense paths, swarmlings, and prolonged contact. |
| Structure support | Amplifiers, Pylons, Lanterns | Maps with safe building positions and useful firing lanes. |
The developer describes skills such as Orb of Presence, Pylons, Seeker Sense, and Demolition, but does not describe a class-selection system. Calling these routes “classes” is a guide shorthand, not an in-game feature.
ALL SKILLS
What each category does
The skill screen groups the 23 skills into economy and control categories. Most skills have a basic effect per level and a stronger secondary effect at every fifth level. Frostborn Wrath uses that five-level breakpoint instead of the older three-level pattern found in earlier series entries.
- Wrath skills: Mana Stream improves mana gained from kills and lowers mana-pool milestones; Demolition improves gem bombs and gem wasps; Fury improves rewards from enraged waves; Seeker Sense improves shadow-core and kill experience.
- Focus skills: Fusion lowers gem creation and combination costs; Orb of Presence lowers banishment cost and adds orblets; True Colors improves pure gems and gives a larger bonus to dual, triple, and quad gems; Resonance improves gem damage and later adds range.
- Component skills: Critical Hit, Mana Leech, Bleeding, Armor Tearing, Poison, and Slowing improve the matching gem effects. These are specialized, so level the component that matches your chosen damage plan.
- Spell skills: Freeze, Whiteout, Ice Shards, and Bolt are strike spells; Beam and Barrage are enhancement spells. Their value depends heavily on whether the battle gives you the spell and whether you can recharge it often.
- Construction skills: Amplifiers improve nearby gem support; Pylons improve pylon range and later pylon shot damage; Lanterns improve firing speed and target capacity; Traps improve special effects and later firing speed.
| Skill | Unlock location | Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Critical Hit | B5 | Journey |
| Seeker Sense | D5 | Endurance |
| Fury | E2 | Endurance |
| Whiteout | G3 | Journey |
| Ice Shards | H4 | Journey |
| Bleeding | I4 | Endurance |
| True Colors | J1 | Endurance |
| Demolition | L3 | Journey |
| Barrage | M3 | Journey |
| Armor Tearing | N3 | Journey |
| Slowing | N5 | Journey |
| Poison | P1 | Journey |
| Bolt | Q1 | Journey |
| Resonance | R4 | Journey |
| Traps | S4 | Journey |

A listed field and mode identifies the Wizard Stash that grants the skill. Open the stash before the battle ends in Journey or before the Orb is destroyed in Endurance, then complete the required battle condition.
SPENDING POINTS
Recommended routes from early to late game
Skill points are awarded through wizard progression, and Trial fields can provide fixed skill-point rewards. However, every point also has an opportunity cost: unspent points contribute to starting mana. The strongest allocation is therefore the one that clears the opening waves without leaving excessive mana idle.
- Early game: Put points into Mana Stream and Resonance at roughly similar levels. Add Fusion at about half their level unless you are struggling to create or combine gems. Keep a reserve of unspent points for starting mana.
- Before True Colors: Use Resonance as the dependable damage skill. Add only the component skills needed by your available gem colors, and avoid spreading points across every spell and building.
- After J1: Make True Colors a priority if you use pure or combined gems. A practical starting ratio is True Colors and Resonance near one another, with Critical Hit below them if yellow gems are your main attackers.
- When mana farming: Shift points toward Mana Leech and Traps. Use an orange gem to generate mana and a separate kill gem to finish enemies. Mana Stream becomes less urgent once your farm reliably funds the battle.
- For Endurance: Prioritize the skills that scale your repeatable engine, usually True Colors, Resonance, Critical Hit, Mana Leech, Traps, and Amplifiers. Add Fury when you deliberately enrage waves for experience or rewards.
- For Trial and Iron: Do not assume your normal build applies. Trial battles restrict available skills, gems, buildings, spells, and traits, while Iron changes the challenge rules. Read the field restrictions first and move points into the stats that the battle actually permits.
| Stage | Suggested priority | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Opening journey | Mana Stream, Resonance, Fusion | You need both starting economy and immediate damage. |
| After J1 | True Colors, Resonance, Critical Hit | Pure gems and yellow damage gain a strong scaling route. |
| Endurance farming | Mana Leech, Traps, True Colors, Resonance | The setup converts prolonged enemy contact into mana and damage. |
| Special map or mode | Required component, spell, or structure skill | Field rules can make a normally weak skill the correct choice. |
Community allocations are useful starting points, but there is no universal level-by-level distribution. Talisman bonuses, available gem colors, battle mode, and whether you mana-farm all change the best ratio.
STATS AND DECISIONS
How to read the important numbers
The most useful stat is not always the largest percentage on the skill screen. Judge each point by what it changes in the battle: damage, mana returned, time on target, or the number of waves you can safely survive.
- Damage and specials. True Colors increases damage and special strength, while Resonance increases general gem damage. Critical Hit increases the yellow component and is strongest when yellow gems make most of your attacks.
- Mana economy. Mana Stream improves income from kills, Fusion reduces the cost of making and combining gems, and Mana Leech increases the orange component. A farming build values repeatable income more than a large starting pool.
- Control and uptime. Slowing, Freeze, Whiteout, Ice Shards, and Traps are valuable because they keep enemies exposed to damage. Traps are short-ranged, so place a slowing trap before the main trap line when possible.
- Range and structure support. Amplifiers, Pylons, and Lanterns are placement-sensitive. Their displayed percentages matter only when the building can cover the right gem or target lane without being destroyed.
- Progression stats. Seeker Sense improves shadow-core and experience gains, while Fury improves the reward from enraged waves. These are progression investments, not replacements for damage when you are stuck on a new field.
| If your problem is... | First adjustment | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start the battle comfortably | Leave more points unspent for starting mana. | Maxing a late-game component too early. |
| Your kill gem falls behind | Raise True Colors or Resonance, then the matching component. | Investing evenly in every component. |
| You have mana but no scaling | Add Fusion, Mana Leech, or Traps according to your setup. | Adding more starting mana without improving income. |
| Enemies outrun your damage | Use Slowing, Traps, Freeze, or a better firing lane. | Building a structure route on a map that cannot support it. |
Displayed skill effects are the verified baseline from the reference data. The best practical ratio at very high wizard levels is not a universal published rule; treat community formulas as experiments and retest them after changing talisman bonuses or battle modes.
FAQ
Common questions
How do you unlock skills?
Open the Wizard Stash associated with the skill’s field and mode, then finish the battle condition. Skill stashes are commonly found in Journey or Endurance, and some locations changed from early release information after updates.
Where are the skill locations?
The complete field list is B5 Critical Hit, D5 Seeker Sense, E2 Fury, G3 Whiteout, H4 Ice Shards, I4 Bleeding, J1 True Colors, L3 Demolition, M3 Barrage, N3 Armor Tearing, N5 Slowing, P1 Poison, Q1 Bolt, R4 Resonance, S4 Traps, T1 Lanterns, U3 Pylons, V4 Amplifiers, W1 Orb of Presence, X4 Beam, Y3 Freeze, and Z5 Mana Leech.
What is the best first build?
For a first Journey clear, use Mana Stream and Resonance at similar levels, keep Fusion somewhat lower, and preserve enough unspent points for opening mana. After J1, add True Colors and then Critical Hit if yellow gems are your main damage source.
Should every skill be leveled?
No. Skill points are better concentrated around the gems, buildings, and spells you actually use. Specialized skills such as Pylons, Lanterns, or a single component can remain low until a field or build makes them valuable.
Do Trial battles use my normal skill build?
Not in the usual way. Trial mode sets the available skills, mana, gem types, buildings, spells, and battle traits for each field, so solve the trial’s restrictions rather than copying your Endurance allocation.
