Content warning

Entering a spell can bypass an intended unlock route and may reveal story or secret content. Make a cloud or platform save backup before experimenting, especially if you use multiple save slots or play across devices.

The answer before the background

Our recommendation

The reliable way to use codes is to unlock the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane, open Secrets from the main menu, and enter a spell exactly as written. For characters, useful current spells include x-x1viiq for Exdash, tramezzini for Toastie, maybeimastallion for Smith IV, happybirthday for Sammy, and many DLC-specific entries. On mobile, PS5, Xbox, and Switch, use the on-screen keyboard in Secrets; old menu keyboard cheats such as the Mortaccio sequence are not the same system and may require a physical keyboard.

What is working, and what is not a code

The game still has two different systems that players often call cheats. Spells are typed in the Secrets menu and are designed to unlock characters, stages, relics, weapons, Arcana, Darkana, and cosmetic secrets. Separate keyboard cheats are entered on the main menu or during a run and include special legacy inputs such as the Konami-style Mortaccio command.

The permanent Secrets menu normally appears after you collect the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane. The relic is found by defeating the Bone Orb in The Bone Zone. Some versions also provide a temporary route through the Yellow Sign entry in the Collection, but the relic is the dependable long-term method.

The official update trail confirms that the 1.15 rollout reached PC, consoles, mobile, and Epic Games Store, while later 1.16 hotfixes continued to address unlocks, performance, and platform-specific issues. A spell that fails on one build is not automatically fake; first check the exact game version and whether the required DLC or prerequisite is installed.

  • Working category: Secrets-menu spells, including character, stage, relic, weapon, Arcana, and Darkana entries.
  • Platform-limited category: legacy keyboard cheats that depend on physical-keyboard timing or arrow-key input.
  • Not a code: an online room code. That number is only for joining a hosted multiplayer session.
  • Not a legitimate shortcut: modified APKs, hacked saves, trainers, or websites asking for account credentials.

Evidence boundary

The official sources confirm the DLC, platform support, update rollout, and recent fixes. The spell names themselves are documented in the community-maintained reference listed below. Where a platform build differs, treat the in-game Secrets menu and your main-menu version number as the final check.

How to enter a spell correctly

1. Update the game through your platform store. On PC, compare the version in the bottom-right corner of the main menu with the current official news. On consoles and mobile, allow the store to finish any pending patch before testing a spell.

2. Unlock the Secrets menu by collecting the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane in The Bone Zone. If the menu is already visible, you can skip this step.

3. Open Secrets from the main menu. On PC, type with a keyboard. On Steam Deck, mobile, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, use the displayed on-screen keyboard or text-entry controls.

4. Enter the spell with the exact letters, including repeated letters and hyphens. Spells generally have a generous input window, but entering them without pauses is the safest approach.

5. Look for the unlock confirmation, then check the relevant character, stage, Collection entry, or unlock list. Some characters still need to be purchased with gold after the spell unlocks them.

6. Restart the game only if the content does not appear immediately. Do not repeatedly enter a code while a save is syncing; close the game normally first.

  • For Exdash, enter x-x1viiq. The hyphen matters.
  • For Toastie, enter tramezzini after Exdash is unlocked.
  • For Smith IV, enter maybeimastallion after Toastie is unlocked.
  • For Sammy, enter happybirthday. This is a Tides of the Foscari character spell.
  • For the main stages and their Hyper toggles, the reference lists everywhere, provided the normal prerequisite for the stage system has been met.
  • For several DLC characters, use the spell listed for that character rather than guessing from the character’s internal secret name.

Character code safety

Spells do not normally delete progress, but they can reveal content earlier than intended. If you want an evidence-led playthrough, record which spells you used or keep a separate save slot before redeeming them.

Mobile, PS5, Xbox, and Switch differences

The same Secrets-menu spell system is available across the supported PC, console, and mobile versions. The major difference is input: PC players normally type directly, while touch and controller platforms use an on-screen keyboard. This is why searches for mobile codes or PS5 codes often produce conflicting advice based on older keyboard-only cheats.

On mobile, open Secrets and tap the letters in order. On PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, select the letters through the platform’s text-entry interface. If a guide tells you to press Escape, Enter, or a timed arrow-key sequence, it is probably describing a legacy keyboard cheat rather than a normal spell.

Toastie and Smith IV are useful examples. Their Secrets-menu spells are the practical cross-platform route. The older methods involving a brief Toastie appearance or a multi-menu spam sequence are more awkward and may be impossible without a keyboard accessory, depending on the platform and build.

Emerald Diorama is free on supported platforms and contains its own in-game unlocks. The official FAQ lists Steam, Xbox, PS4 and PS5, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS excluding Apple Arcade, and Epic Games Store. It does not identify a separate promotional code for the DLC. Install it through the platform store, then use the Secrets menu only for documented spells tied to that content.

  • Mobile: use the touch keyboard in Secrets; do not install an APK from a code website.
  • PS5: use the PS5 or PS4 version’s on-screen text entry and check whether the DLC is installed on that account.
  • Xbox: use the on-screen keyboard; Game Pass players can access free Emerald Diorama content when the DLC is available to the installation.
  • Switch: enter spells through the console keyboard. A physical-keyboard-only legacy command may not be practical.
  • PC and Steam Deck: direct keyboard entry is simplest; Steam Deck can also use its on-screen keyboard.

Version caveat

Poncle has stated that platforms may receive the same content with different bugfixes and tweaks. If a spell is accepted but the reward does not appear, note your platform, version number, DLC ownership, and whether the prerequisite character or relic is unlocked before reporting it.

Why a code may not work

First, check the menu. A spell belongs in Secrets; a legacy cheat may belong on the main menu or inside a run. Entering the right text in the wrong place can look exactly like a bad code because the game may provide little or no error feedback.

Second, check prerequisites. Toastie depends on Exdash, Smith IV depends on Toastie, and DLC entries require the relevant expansion. Some stage or relic spells also reflect normal progression requirements. A spell can be correctly typed and still fail to produce content that your installation cannot use.

Third, check spelling and timing. Do not add spaces, quotation marks, or backticks. Preserve hyphens, repeated letters, and unusual names. If the on-screen keyboard closes, reopen Secrets and start again rather than assuming the entry was saved.

Finally, avoid third-party unlock tools. Modified mobile packages, save editors, cheat engines, and “all characters” downloads can corrupt saves, violate platform rules, or bundle malware. The official game already exposes the intended spell system, so there is no good reason to trade a harmless in-game shortcut for an untrusted file.

  • Confirm the Secrets menu is unlocked.
  • Confirm the target DLC is installed and active.
  • Check the platform version shown on the main menu.
  • Use the exact spell from a maintained reference, not an internal secret name.
  • Restart normally after a successful unlock and inspect the character or Collection screen.
  • If the issue remains, report the platform and version instead of downloading a modified save.
Recommendation

Use spells selectively if you care about discovery. They are best treated as accessibility and cleanup tools for content you have already researched, not as unofficial promotional codes or a replacement for official progression.

Common questions

Are there new promotional codes for free gold or DLC?

No current official source reviewed for this tracker advertises a general promotional-code campaign. The game’s documented shortcuts are in-game spells and legacy cheats. Emerald Diorama is distributed as free DLC through supported platform stores, not through a public redemption code.

Do character codes work on mobile?

Yes, Secrets-menu spells can be entered with the mobile on-screen keyboard when the Secrets menu is unlocked. Older physical-keyboard commands are a different system and may not work on touch devices.

Do they work on PS5, Xbox, and Switch?

The Secrets-menu spell system is supported on those platforms through on-screen text entry. A legacy keyboard command may be unavailable or inconvenient, so use the equivalent spell when one exists.

Why is a spell accepted but the character is still missing?

Check prerequisites, DLC ownership, and the character screen after restarting. Some unlocks require an earlier secret character, while others unlock content that must still be purchased with gold.

Is x-x1viiq still valid for Exdash?

The maintained spell reference still lists x-x1viiq, including the hyphen, and the character remains obtainable through that spell or a rare normal gameplay route. Enter it in Secrets unless your version specifically documents another route.

Are internal secret names the same as codes?

No. The Secrets list can show hints or internal code names, but those names are not always the spell to type. Use the documented spell attached to the target character, stage, relic, or weapon.
