Fast answer
The answer before the background
Diablo 4 endgame becomes manageable when every run has a named reward. Use Helltides and Whispers for broad materials and open-world progress, Nightmare Dungeons for their current dungeon rewards, Lair Bosses when targeting Unique or Mythic chances, the Pit and Tower to measure a developed build, and Infernal Hordes for their current chest economy. Lord of Hatred owners unlock War Plans after its campaign and can chain selected activities from the Temis command table. During Season of Death Awakening, Pandemonium Ruptures and Deathtoll Chambers lead toward Superior Lair Keys, seasonal reputation and the Corrupted Reaper. Raise Torment only while clear speed and survival remain efficient.
Routing
Choose the reward before opening the activity
| Need | Start with | Check before farming |
|---|---|---|
| Broad materials / Favors | Helltide, Whispers and open-world events | Season, region and cache contents. |
| Target Unique | Current Lair Boss source | Key tier, personal cache and live loot table. |
| Build pressure | Pit or Tower | Patch, tier, leaderboard rules and death cost. |
| Structured activity chain | War Plans | Lord of Hatred campaign completion and board modifiers. |
| Season currency / boss | Ruptures and Deathtoll Chambers | Seasonal Realm and current reputation step. |
| Experience or gold | Activity with strong completion rate | Time per clear, deaths and travel overhead. |
Difficulty
Torment is a multiplier only when the character can collect it
The 3.0 update raised the level cap to 70 and expanded Torment through twelve levels. Higher settings offer stronger reward and experience potential, but a stalled boss, repeated death or long setup can reduce actual progress. Record completion time and failure rate instead of assuming the last unlocked tier is correct.
If a character cannot move through ordinary packs, repair damage uptime or resource. If elite attacks cause deaths, repair defenses or control recovery. If one boss blocks the run, use a lower tier or activity while farming the missing item rather than forcing an inefficient test.
War Plans and season
Do not merge expansion and seasonal systems
War Plans are a permanent Lord of Hatred endgame system unlocked after that campaign. They let the player create an activity board, select modifications and complete chained objectives for a War Chest in Temis. Patch 3.1 added party synchronization and reward adjustments, so launch-week explanations may be incomplete.
Season of Death Awakening is a separate limited-time layer. Ruptures, Glints of Hope, Deathtoll Chambers, Pandemonium Fragments and the seasonal Corrupted Reaper belong to that season. A guide should not promise those activities to an Eternal character or after the season ends.
