The answer before the background

Our recommendation

Diablo 4 Warlock is the dark counterpart introduced with Lord of Hatred. The class selects a Soul Shard identity, generates and spends Dominance, and can command demons or transform its own combat state. A stable Warlock build begins by deciding whether the main engine is a direct spell, a commanded demon, Demonform or an Apocalypse-centered burst. Choose the Soul Shard and variants that feed that engine, then budget Dominance so a defensive or control tool is still available. The launch fantasy encourages many demons and effects, but an effective setup still needs a readable rotation, a movement answer and defenses that function between large cooldowns.

Soul Shards define the plan before individual item rolls

Blizzard's class overview connects the Warlock to forbidden Vizjerei demon-summoning knowledge. In play, the important editorial distinction is mechanical: Soul Shards and their fragments alter how the class generates power and commands its infernal toolkit. A build should name the selected Shard rather than saying only 'summoner' or 'caster.'

Current patch notes reference Legion and Mastermind Shards, Dominance generation, Demonform, Command Fallen, Command Valloch and abilities such as Apocalypse, Umbral Chains, Wall of Agony and Terror Swarm. Their exact values changed after launch, so use the live tooltip for numbers.

Damage engineSpell, demon command, Demonform or burst? Can you identify what dealt most boss damage?
Soul ShardDoes its fragment support that engine?Remove it and compare resource or uptime.
DominanceHow is it generated and spent? Can the full rotation repeat without waiting?
DemonsAre they damage, utility or a resource bridge?Do they remain useful against mobile bosses?
DefenseWhat protects the gaps?Survive when the ultimate is unavailable.
MovementHow do you reposition?Leave a lethal ground effect without breaking the entire loop.

Do not mix preview, launch and current Warlock values

Pre-release presentations explain the fantasy; 3.0 launch notes define the released kit; 3.1 notes record later changes. A guide copied from a preview can use a skill name that survived while its cost, duration or interaction changed. Record build version and expansion before importing it.

If an Apocalypse or demon-command setup underperforms, first check whether its required Shard fragment, variant, Talisman set or resource threshold is active. If it dies, add a reliable defensive layer rather than assuming more Dominance will solve every problem.

Common questions

How do I unlock Warlock?

Own Lord of Hatred and create the class through the normal character flow on the licensed Battle.net account.

What resource does Warlock use?

Is Warlock only a pet class?

No. Official material shows demon commands, spells, Demonform and burst options; the selected build determines the emphasis.
