The answer before the background

Our recommendation

There are four primary generals: Jinfrum the Rejuvenator, Bonelord Zadzik, Ghostfang, and Tudd the Reclaimer. Their first-clear order is fixed: Jinfrum on a three-mission run, Zadzik on four, Ghostfang on five, and Tudd on six. Each boss has a dedicated map and a single-wave fight. Use sustained damage on Jinfrum, crowd control and mobility against Zadzik, line-of-sight cover against Ghostfang, and a trap-resistant killbox with reliable War Mage damage against Tudd. Bosses now award 100 skulls, and killing the final boss triggers the ending sequence.

All four generals and their encounter conditions

The first boss sequence is not random. The game presents the four generals in a fixed order, with the boss mission serving as the last map of that run. The numbers below refer to the total mission count in the initial progression sequence, not the boss's wave number.

After a boss is defeated, its map can return as an ordinary map in later runs and can also appear again as a boss mission. Once all four generals have been defeated, the normal mission-limit restriction is removed. Boss missions are intentionally compact: they contain one wave and do not use ordinary Threads or map distortions.

  • Jinfrum the Rejuvenator: Arboretum, the boss of a three-mission run.
  • Bonelord Zadzik: Order Museum, the boss of a four-mission run.
  • Ghostfang: Back Alleys, the boss of a five-mission run.
  • Tudd the Reclaimer: Colosseum, the boss of a six-mission run and the first-clear final boss.

What counts as the final boss?

Tudd is the final boss of the original four-boss progression because he is encountered on the sixth mission and completes the first-clear sequence. Later repeat runs can contain boss missions without representing a new story ending.

How to handle each boss fight

Jinfrum is the simplest fight mechanically, but his regeneration punishes defensive pauses. Do not wait for a trap cooldown while he is inside the killbox. Combine persistent damage with your primary attack, and keep a second damage lane ready in case he teleports or walks around the first setup. The important rule is continuity: even small hits are valuable if they stop his regeneration window.

Zadzik creates pressure by adding bodies while also moving himself. A pure trap maze can lose control when the boss teleports beyond the intended funnel. Use barricades to create short, repeatable sight lines rather than one enormous maze. When skeletons appear beside the boss, clear enough space to preserve movement, then return fire to Zadzik. Sophie is required for the boss figurine milestone, but the encounter itself does not require that hero.

Ghostfang is the sniper boss. Fight around walls, pillars, or other solid objects that break his line of sight. Peeking for a short attack is safer than standing in the open while waiting for traps to work. If he appears to vanish or die immediately, treat that as a possible bug first: official patches documented cases where he died on spawn, and later notes still listed occasional instant-death issues.

Tudd is the clearest test of trap redundancy. His wave damages and disables traps in its path, so a single perfect killbox can fail at the worst moment. Build two or more damage layers, leave room to retreat, and use direct attacks while disabled traps recover. Do not spend every resource on one lane immediately before the boss arrives.

  • Before each boss, reserve enough rune coins for emergency damage or replacement defenses.
  • Prefer damage that continues working while you move, especially against Jinfrum and Tudd.
  • Keep the War Mage near cover in the Ghostfang arena and avoid a completely open firing position.
  • In co-op, assign one player to boss pressure and another to summoned enemies or trap recovery when Zadzik or Tudd creates openings.

Drops, skulls and enemy figurines

The official 1.0.9 patch states that defeating a boss awards 100 skulls. The Magnum Orcus update also added a Codex containing enemy, status-effect, pickup, and figurine information, so the in-game Codex is the best place to confirm collection progress on a current build.

A community-maintained enemy reference lists each general with a 1,000 coin value and a 5 percent pickup-drop chance. That reference does not establish a guaranteed boss-specific item, and the developer patch notes do not promise a unique equipment drop. Treat the 100-skull reward as verified; treat the exact coin and pickup fields as reference data rather than a guaranteed loot table.

Boss figurines are separate from ordinary enemy kills. The four boss figurines use character-specific milestones: Kalos for Jinfrum, Sophie for Zadzik, Mac for Ghostfang, and Gabriella for Tudd. The game also contains ordinary enemy figurines, which can come from milestones or hidden finds in levels. If a figurine does not unlock, check the requirement in the Codex rather than assuming any player or trap kill will count.

  • Verified reward: 100 skulls for defeating a boss.
  • Verified collection system: the Codex records enemies, pickups, and figurines.
  • Verified boss figurine requirements: Kalos, Sophie, Mac, and Gabriella are paired with Jinfrum, Zadzik, Ghostfang, and Tudd respectively.
  • Uncertain or version-sensitive: the exact practical behavior of the community reference's 1,000-coin and 5-percent pickup fields.
About “kill every enemy at least once”

The Codex and figurine milestones are the reliable progress checks. There is no verified developer statement in the sources reviewed saying that every enemy must be killed personally by the War Mage, so do not rely on that claim unless your current in-game milestone explicitly says so.

Why did the boss disappear or die instantly?

A boss ending the level immediately after death is intended. Since the Magnum Orcus update, bosses play a cutscene and the level ends as soon as the boss is killed, so you may not have time to collect items or finish ordinary enemies afterward.

A boss vanishing before a normal kill is different. Ghostfang had documented spawn-death problems in patches 1.0.9 and 1.0.11, while earlier official notes also acknowledged that bosses could step on breakable props and die. If the sniper boss disappears, dies on arrival, or leaves the arena with no meaningful damage, update the game, restart the boss mission, and avoid placing the opening killbox around breakable scenery.

If the fight does not end after the boss reaches zero health, the official notes also mention cases where enemies could remain at zero health without dying or entering the Rift. Record the map, boss, platform, and whether you were playing solo or in co-op before reporting it through the game's support channels.

  • Update before repeating a suspected Ghostfang bug.
  • Restart the mission if the boss dies on spawn or disappears without a real attack sequence.
  • Do not mistake the post-kill cutscene and immediate level end for a missing drop.
  • Use a clean, open boss area when testing whether scenery is causing an instant death.

Common questions

Is there an Orcs Must Die Deathtrap boss rush mode?

The standard progression is a sequence of separate boss missions, not a verified four-boss battle in one arena. Challenges and other post-release modes add new run structures, but the sources reviewed do not establish a dedicated all-boss rush that replaces the normal sequence.

What is boss 2?

The second boss is Bonelord Zadzik. He appears on the Order Museum map at the end of a four-mission run in the initial progression order.

Which boss is the sniper?

Ghostfang is the sniper boss. His defining attack targets War Mages with a powerful shot, and solid cover breaks the shot's line of sight.

Do I have to use the required hero for the boss fight?

No for ordinary completion, based on the listed figurine milestones. The required hero matters for the boss figurine unlock: Kalos for Jinfrum, Sophie for Zadzik, Mac for Ghostfang, and Gabriella for Tudd.

What is the final boss?

Tudd the Reclaimer is the final boss of the initial four-general progression. He appears in the Colosseum on mission six and disables traps with his attack wave.
